By car

coming from the North: when driving to South Tyrol from the North, you can reach it via Rosenheim, Kufstein (“Inntal” motorway) and Innsbruck ; from there you can drive along the A 13 all the way to the Brennero pass. From there you take the „Brennero” motorway to Vipiteno in South Tyrol.
coming from the East: when arriving from the East, San Candido in the Pusteria valley can be reached from Lienz via the state road 49.
coming from the West: those who travel to South Tyrol from the West have the following options to get there:

  • via Ulm, Kempten, Füssen, Fernpass, Imst and Landeck to the Resia pass,
  • via Bregenz, Feldkirch, Arlberg and Landeck to the Resia pass,
  •  via Zürich, Landquart, Klosters, Vereinatunnel, Zernez across the Ofen pass to South Tyrol,
  •  via St. Moritz, Ofen pass, Münster to Tubre

By train

international connections: the journey by train takes you via Munich (German railways), Vienna (Austrian railways) or Zürich (Swiss railways) across the Brennero pass; coming from the East you can take a train from Lienz to San Candido and from there westwards.
regional connections: The “Val Venosta” train has an hourly service between Bolzano and Malles in the Venosta valley, the “Val Pusteria” train operates between Fortezza and San Candido in the Pusteria valley.

By plane

South Tyrol's airport, the Airport Bolzano Dolomiti (Bolzano Airport), is situated in the South of Bolzano.
Other nearby airports are in Innsbruck, Verona, Munich and Bergamo as well as in Venezia and Treviso. Most of them offer year-round and reasonably priced transfer services (Low-Cost Transfer) to South Tyrol.
